Eye Care Services for Your Pet

Gulf Coast Animal Eye Clinic is a specialty referral practice with locations in Houston and Corpus Christi. Our doctors have completed specialty training to become board certified veterinary ophthalmologists – veterinarians who specifically treat diseases of the animal eye. Veterinary Ophthalmologists not only complete veterinary school, but go on to complete internships and residencies before being able to sit for the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) Board Certifying Examination. The process of veterinary school, internship, and residency completion is approximately 8 years, sometimes longer depending on the program.

The ACVO is recognized by the American Board of Veterinary Specialties of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Established in 1970, ACVO continues to be a worldwide leader in the field. There are only 470 member diplomates of the college with members being involved in academia, private practice, research, or a combination thereof. Specialty training
prepares the ophthalmologist for medical treatment of ocular disease and development of surgical skills that vary from Oculoplastics to microsurgery (ex. corneal or intraocular).
