Dr. James Swanson
Dr. James (Jim) Swanson graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University in 1977 and was in private practice in Battle Creek, MI for 2 years. He was accepted into a residency position in the Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Texas A&M University in 1979 where he completed a dual residence in Ophthalmology and Small Animal Internal Medicine. Dr. Swanson then occupied a junior faculty position at Texas A&M University and completed the requirements for board certification in the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO). Upon leaving Texas A&M, Dr. Swanson was an assistant professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Wisconsin/Madision until 1986 when he returned to Texas to join Dr. Kohle Herrmann at Gulf Coast Animal Eye Clinic.
Dr. Swanson is published in veterinary journals and books, and has had numerous positions within the ACVO including member and chair of the ACVO Examination Committee, ACVO Regent, Vice President, President-Elect, President, ACVO Ethics Committee and member and Chair of the ACVO Governance Committee as well as a member of the ACVO Vision for Animals Foundation.
In his spare time Dr. Swanson is active in his church, plays jazz guitar and chases golf balls.
